My Experience at The Barn at Drovers Rest Wedding Open Day

On November 16th, I had the pleasure of attending The Barn at Drovers Rest’s wedding open day as a featured photographer. Set in the heart of Herefordshire, this venue combines rustic charm with modern touches, creating an ideal space for weddings that are as personal as they are picturesque.

A bride in a white wedding dress with a lace bodice and flowing veil sits on an olive green vintage sofa at Drovers Rest. Captured by Russell Lewis Photography, the backdrop features rustic wooden panels and decorative plants, creating an elegant and serene setting.

A Venue That Ticks All the Boxes

The Barn at Drovers Rest is more than just a beautiful backdrop. With 40 acres of fields and forest, it offers couples exclusive use of the entire estate. Whether you’re dreaming of an outdoor ceremony with mountain views or a cozy celebration in one of the barns, the options here are endless.

As a wedding photographer, I couldn’t ask for a better canvas. The mix of natural light, dramatic landscapes, and thoughtful details (fire pits, wildflowers, and glamping tents, to name a few) provides countless opportunities to capture meaningful moments in a stunning setting.

Highlights of the Open Day

The open day had a warm, welcoming vibe that encouraged couples to explore, imagine, and plan their dream day. Here’s what stood out:

A rustic outdoor cooking setup at Drovers Rest showcases chickens and bunches of carrots hanging above a metal grill, captured beautifully by Russell Lewis Photography. Nearby, a pineapple rests as a fire crackles below with glowing embers and charred wood, creating an enchanting backdrop perfect for weddings.
  • Food and Drink: Guests were treated to delicious seasonal bites and drinks, showcasing the venue’s commitment to quality.

In an industrial setting, a wedding dress display showcases four elegant gowns on mannequins, surrounded by white draped fabric. A gray suit stands nearby. Among the promotional banner and photo table is a nod to Russell Lewis Photography. Perfect for weddings at Drovers Rest.
  • Supplier Showcases: It was great to meet so many couples at my stand and talk about how I approach wedding photography. Other vendors, from florists to live entertainers, also brought their creativity to the event.

  • Venue Tours: Couples explored the barns, outdoor spaces, and accommodation, giving them a real sense of what their day could look like.

A musician sings and plays an electric guitar under a rustic pavilion, perfect for weddings at Drovers Rest. A chandelier hangs in the foreground, with draped white curtains and greenery adding to the charm. Captured by Russell Lewis Photography, the scene exudes elegance and romance.
  • Live Music: Adding to the atmosphere, live performances helped set the tone for what a wedding here could feel like.

Why I Recommend The Barn at Drovers Rest

Aerial view of Drovers Rest in Herefordshire captures the countryside farm with several buildings, surrounded by fields and trees in autumn colors. Cows and a horse graze on the green pasture. The overcast sky creates a misty atmosphere—a perfect setting for weddings photographed by Russell Lewis Photography.

Having worked at many wedding venues, I can confidently say this one has a unique character. It’s a place where couples can create something truly personal, whether it’s a festival-style celebration or an elegant barn wedding. The team at Drovers Rest goes the extra mile to ensure every detail is just right, and that care shows in every corner of the estate.

For me, the magic lies in the authenticity. My goal as a photographer is always to tell your story in a way that feels natural and timeless, and this venue is perfectly suited to that approach.

Thank You
